Walmart Cashiers- my unsung heros

It's no surprise I heart Walmart. I felt like I won the lotto when I find out there was a Super Walmart about 4 miles from my new home in Orlando. If you live in the area, you might have seen me. I'm usually the mom with one screaming kid in the shopping cart, and another running all over the store picking everything she could find. As a mom I've come up with strategies to make the trip a bit less chaotic. I usually let my two year old pick up a toy he likes and hold on to it. This pretty much is the only way to keep him from screaming. He'll usually look at it, inspect it and think that he is going home with it. I'm just happy I get a couple of quiet minutes to pick up most of the items on my list. Once I head to checkout, I have a plan. I usually signal to the cashier to please hold the t-o-y (clearly spelled out) under the register because I wasn’t getting it. Now I have done this more times than I can count, and to this day I have yet to meet an uncooperative Walmart cashier. They are even quite helpful and discreet about it. I then wonder, could they also be moms? or Are they just feeling sorry for a mom who looks in distress? Either way I'm always very appreciative and thank them. They have no idea the money and grief they save me.

So in a moment of gratitude, I dedicate this post to you, the cashiers at Walmart that help this mom keep her sanity and money in her pocket.

Comfort Jolt!

Just the other day I'm driving from my local Starbucks to pick up my daughter from preschool. I was a bit early, therefore able to whole heartedly enjoy my cup of jolt. I starting thinking what is it about this little cup of coffee that gives me so much comfort. For Gods sake we're still in a recession, why am I spending money for coffee. I then I got it!

You see, this has been quite a busy last year. I moved several times and yearn some consistency. It seems that the only constant in my life besides pampers has been Starbucks. Whether I in the Bronx, Long Island, Conneticut or my new home in Orlando, theres always one thing that I can count on. So while for others its just another cup of coffee, for me its a lil more than that. I some comfort jolt.
So for me, I've figured out the obsession.

My new homes best feature...

So I'm still settling in, trying to adapt to this Orlando lifestyle. So far I likes it but what I LUV even more is my pantry. My pantry is mom sized! I can actually step in, close the door behind me and hide from the lil ones. So I have stashed my goodies (twinkies and all) on the fourth self on the right. Now when it's time to take a break and have some comfort I step into my pantry. It's the lil things!

Dishwasher guilt....

Yes, you read correctly, dishwasher guilt. For many years I put off using my dishwasher. There was a tremendous guilt about wasting water. I was committed to staying "green". As I start my new year one of my goals is to -get over it! If I can take advantage of this mom shortcut, then why the heck not. But I did need some backup research to support my decision and help me sleep at night, hence I came across this wonderful article in Treehugger.com called Handwashing vs. Dishwashing: The Winner. Great read that gives you better insight into this debate.

So go ahead ahead moms, turn on your dishwashers (wait until it full though) and go do your nails!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. It came and went too fast. Right before the holidays I did my last move. I am now a proud resident of Orlando, Florida. It's gonna take this New York girl a while to get use to but the weather is definitely worth it, and how about those palm trees decorated with Christmas lights, if that's not culture shock then not sure what is.

I'm hoping this year to write more about my new adventures in Mickey's land.

With all the moving, the kids are outta control and I get it, its alot for them. My usual tactics this year have been threatening with texts and fake calls to Santa. This did work for a bit but now I was in need of a more drastic aaproach. Desperate times call for desperate measures, hence my new favorite app- Parents Calling Santa. I loves it!!

It has three choices, from just a good call, to a warning to getting put on the naughty list. It's working wonders for my 4 year old. Not only is she being good but
she is being helpful. So I'm milking this til Chrismas, after that well I'm gonna haveto find another app!

Not so fast....

Just when I thought I was all nice and settled in, ChicMom is on the move again. This time, destination Orlando, Florida. I cant believe it myself, but life has taught me that when opportunity comes knocking, you best open that door, cause you never know when it will happen again.

I'm enthralled with a mix of emotions. My previous moves where in the tri-state area. This is completely new territory I headed to. I'm excited about my proximity to Disney, the nice weather and getting my house with a pool BUT my heart is still heavy. I will miss all my friends and family. These are relationships that I've built all my life. Everyone that knows me, knows what a New York Chic I am. This will be interesting.

OK guys, its time I get back to some writing. I've been busy with life for the last couple of months. My move from Long Island to Stamford, Ct has totally consumed me. Its my first week as a resident of Connecticut and the only thing I have gotten acquainted with is boxes and a deer that usually visits during dinner time.

Who needs a therapist?

It's September, many people view this as a new year, a fresh start. I know a few people who are turning to a therapists to help in the process. It seems to work for most, which have left me to wonder...should I venture? Their claims are of being able to vent, to let it all out. The weight of their burdens have been lifted off their back. How amazing is that *sigh* But what a minute!!! I do the same thing, just not with a "therapists". I vent to the world, my way is through blogging and Twitter. Whenever I complete a post I feel so light, so happy that I'm able to tell the world how I really feel. Ditto with Twitter, it has helped me keep my sanity many a days. The continuous positive feedback is nothing short of amazing. Tweeps I have never met have given me the encouragement and confidence that a good therapists may not have been able to do.

Why not try it? You can buy some nice stilettos with the cash you can save.

Remembering that day as if it were yesterday. I can't believe it's been eight years since that horrific event. While walking with total strangers from 43rd street in Midtown to the Bronx, I remember thinking "our world will never be the same". With the same token I was never more proud to be an American. The way people, TOTAL strangers pulled together to help one another is what I held on to that day.
Yes, there are cruel people in this world but there are also amazing people that act in heroic ways to protect one another.

Break in Case of Emergency!

I have a 2yr old son who has a speech delay. At two he has just a handful of words. Teaching him language has been on priority list for awhile. I am eternally grateful to the two wonderful teachers who come to work with him every week. I'm also fortunate to have a "family trainer" A.K.A. Nanny 911 who is helping me with his behavior issues. It seems that because he is not able to properly communicate, he gets frustrated and this effects his behavior negatively. I been working with Nanny 911 for about 2 weeks now. She is giving me tips on helping Andrew get through this hump. Lots of wonderful helpful advice but it seems the key is "redirection". Andrew is a strong willed little person. When he wants something, he will go to any length to get it. It could be punching, hitting, slapping, you get my point. Many a days have I left Target in tears because of him. It's that feeling where you want the Earth to swallow you, yeah you know. Well, she's been teaching me the art of redirection, which usually entails me keeping different things of interest in my bag when I go out, with a "break in case of emergency label". When he starts acting up and wants something, I "redirect" him by giving him something from my bag like M&Ms, or one of his favorite trains. Sound simple enough, yet I have found it to be very effective. He usually immediately transfers his attention to what I am offering him. Gosh this could possibly mean some peace for me, in the meantime I need to be redirected to the Sangria.

So I haven't been getting much sleep for awhile. It has alot to do with the 4 year old and 2 year old that sleep in our bed. I routinely wake up with an elbow in my ear or a knee in my crotch. Yes good times, will promise to delight everyone with those stories soon. Getting back to sleep, I feel like I need more than concealer. So I decided to pick up Nutritioniste Renew Anti-Puff Eye Roller. I figure $12.99 was a small price to pay to eliminate the look of dread. So I've been using for a little over a week and can say that I do see a slight difference. Although the dark circles haven't minimized as I would like them to, I do see less puffiness. If anything it's also very soothing around that delicate area around the eye. Worth a try.

One out of two problems solved, not bad. Now if I can get them in their

own bed, OMG!!

There I said it "I want a do-over"

Yes, I said "Do-over"! It's taboo to say amongst mothers who have it all, the kids, the home and the husband. We should be grateful for what we have- isn't that what mom would tell us? But here I am screaming it to the world, "I WANT A DO-OVER!!". I have a right to feel this way. There are just those days when monotony takes over and you wonder "what if". I can't list all the missed opportunitites and sacrifices I've made for my family, they are endless. (I know cry me a river!) And it would not only be selfish but unrealistic to except the same in return. BUT I feel like I have the right to be upset sometimes. Our mothers taught us not to complain, to be happy with what we have. I can hear her clearly " mija, you know it can always be worse, just be happy". My mom, like many good Latina mamis (God bless her soul), devoted her life to her husband and her children. She never did anything for herself, which unfortunately is very characteristic of many old school Latinas. She lived to serve us. Now she lives in a nursing home suffering with Alzheimer's and I know for a fact she never lived life to it's fullest. She never did everything she wanted to do. I unfortunately have regrets for her.

So although I have some wonderful children and husband, i will be the first to admit that at times wanting a do-over does cross my mind. I want to make sure I make myself a priority, something my poor Mami never did. I will do it in her name, cause that's really the least I can do.

Fall is in the air!

There's something exciting about Fall. Not sure if it's the new trends or the leaves falling. There's something very euphoric about the cool air and walking on leaves. Maybe it's because it reminds me of a better time in my life, a time when my biggest worry was that my clothes matched for school or if I liked my new history teacher, a subject which I dreaded. Back then I didn't realize how good I had it, how simple and beautiful life really was. Now in my thirties life is so much more complicated and although my wardrobe is still important, there are other things that

have taken it's place.
I say all this just to say how important it is to enjoy the moment. It really doesn't get better than this, so why not live it up "NOW".
I'm a work in progress, but progress is the keyword.

Somethings are just guaranteed. Target for me is a sure hit. I started my Fall clothing shopping for the lil ones. One of my favorite things to do is

shop for little girls, I love my boy but they're a lil boring when it comes to shopping.

Ok, so I managed to pick up a couple of ridiculously chic, tremendously adorable dresses at, yes you heard right $12.99. Seriously you can't go wrong, think I'm going back for a couple more.

I'm a mom, I need to keep it simple. I usually keep my everyday makeup natural, only because I don't have the time to spend on making my face up every morning. I also think this is a blessing in disguise, cause less can definitely be more.

Here a 4 musts for my tiny makeup bag. Almost all you can get at your local CVS, with only one splurge...

* Covergirl Trueblend Liquid Makeup- its light and yes it covers nicely.

* Maybelline Superstay Gloss in Bleaming Blush, it a pretty natural pink and color lasts for hours and many kisses.

* Maybelline Great Lash in Black, I'm a big fan just Google it.

Lastly, Nars Orgasm Blush- its my splurge but it does last a long time and the color is really flattering on most skin tones. **a must in anyone's makeup bag**

Looking Chic doesn't necessarily mean spending big bucks, and a splurge here and there never hurt a soul.

Andrew's Milestone....argh

Spent a couple of days in Connecticut with the kids. Wanted to get to know Stamford, as I might actually be living there soon. I decided to check out Barnes and Nobles, as we frequent it for Storytime here in Long Island. Ava usually sits very attentively listening to the storyteller. Andrew on the other hand runs straight to the toy train tracks, as trains are his toy of choice. We had a successful first ten minutes until another boy decided to take his train. Andrew was not gonna take it. In a matter of seconds there were two boys intertwined and two moms pulling for dear life. These boys sadly over powered us. I didn't know which was worse the crying and screaming or the fact my two year old was stronger than me. We finally managed to go separate ways. I wanted the Earth to swallow me, as I was "that" mom no one ever wants to be. My son's first fight.....

Practice makes perfect....sometimes

I'm in the midst of a very stressful time in my life, aren't we all. I wanna say it's hectic but that's a tad bit mild. Relocating and everything that goes with it is overwhelming. Not to mention other things that are brewing in my life. Yes, when it rains, it surely does pour. I'm constantly waking up in the middle of the night figuring out, how am I gonna do this? Where will I find the strength? BUT I've also noticed that I've been lax on my meditative practices and my learning of living in the now. I'm a big Eckhart Tolle fan. He taught me to enjoy this very moment, because incredibly that's all we have. I have read both The Power of Now and A New Earth and can tell you that they transformed my life. By nature I'm a worrier, it's one of the characteristics my mom passed along to me (along with her great cheekbones) Is it productive? No! Do I insist doing it? Yes!

Well, I've decided to rediscover my "now" practices. I'm back to reading my Power of Now and listening to my Oprah and Eckhart podcasts regularly.

I'm a work in progress, the quest to improve continues.......

I heart "trends"- no not those

Yes, I am fashion obsessed. I am on the constant look out for the new and chic. But that's not the obsession I am rambling about now. The "trends" I am referring to are the ones on Twitter. I have a need to know whats going on right now. Breaking news gives me a euphoric feeling (I know I'm a lil kinda crazy). So now I find myself checking the Trends on Twitter constantly. Somehow information seems to be transmitting so much faster on Twitter than anywhere else. For instance yesterday while waiting for my movie to start, I took yet another peek at the Trends. Unfortunately, it was the death of DJ am. Not only did I get to read about it instantly but I also had first hand accounts from friends who knew him and tweeted about him.

Someone very close to me told me Twitter was just a fad, hmm I doubt it.

The Kennedy's

On this passing of this very important part of the Kennedy legacy most of us are reflecting on this generation of men and their contributions, and rightfully so. They are a large part of our history. But you see I always tend to stear to the other side. The side that was packaged with grace, style and it's own scandolous legacy. Yes, I am taking about Jackie. She has always been on the top of my "friends in my head" list. I didn't know her, never met her but know enough of her to admire her deeply. One of my all time favorite books is What would Jackie do? Written by Shelley Branch and Sue Callaway. It's basically an inspired guide to distinctive living. It's cleverly written to help you attain Jackie's elegance and pratical smarts. When in doubt I usually ask myself "What would Jackie do?"

So for my birthday in July, being the Gadget Geek I am, got the new 3Gs iPhone. Now to be honest, I don't see a major difference BUT the only reason I was super excited was because this one had video!! You see this would translate into VBlogging heaven for a mom. So, I started filming my little ones daily life. Before you know it my phone memory is filling up because of course I want to film them waking up, eating, in the potty, breathing and thinking. I decided to search the web looking for a place where I can post them and get them off my phone (because of course I need to make more room for pointless video). After extensive research my best choice was Posterous. You can post almost anything on Posterous, pictures, video and MP3s. So simple you can even post by emailing it. You can also password protect these sites to keep them private. This is the perfect format for the newbie blogger.

Posterous rocks!

Monday Morning Smile

So this morning as I sip my cup of jolt and go through my Google reader, I had a wonderful find in Newsweek. Surprisingly, I come across this model, this beautiful woman who I can finally say, looks s bit like me. Lizzi Miller, a plus size model is featured in this September's Glamour magazine. And guess what? She has a pouch belly, much like me and tons of woman all over the world who have had babies. I must say I did a double take, ok triple take. Was I in more disbelief that she would actually pose like this, or was I more amused that Glamour would feature her? Either way this is a win, win situation. Being a Latina, I must say that I have never and will never look like those runway models. When I skim through my Vogue, Elle and Cosmo, I never do with the intention of finding some commonality between myself and these models. Latina magazine comes close, but again Jaslene Gonzalez (of ANTM Fame) is a rarity. But you know what? I'm happy with that, and I must say I love my curves. Finally, after being in my mid-30s I can say that I am comfortable in my own skin. And my lil pouch, well that representative of the miracles that I birthed.

My wish is that the media follow Glamour's lead and feature real women.

My message to Glamour would be thank you...when will she be on the cover??

Etsy + iPhone = Smiles

Where do I begin? Most of you know my love for my iPhone and I've talked about my love of Etsy. It's heaven for people like me who love all things handmade, unique and vintage. A couple of years ago Etsy quickly became an addiction for me, almost like my iPhone. I'm glad developers are now realizing how spectacular Etsy really is. There are now three applications for Etsy. Handmade, Gotta Etsy and Etsy Addict, each .99 cents. I am debating which one to get, knowing me, I will probably get all three. I think I will get Handmade only cause I can Twitter my finds, and you all know how I feel bout Twitter, smile.

Beach Waves on A Budget!

Beach waves are all the rave this season. There's nothing sexier than having that just got back from the beach look. I made my own spray which resulted in gorgeous waves. First I used some Dove Light Conditioning mist I had left, I then poured in a couple of teaspoons of sea salt I purchased at my local grocery. Tada- beautiful beach waves!!

Father's Day

Father's Day always make me look back at my childhood. I had a tumultous relationship with my dad, I touched a little upon this in my Cinco de Mayo entry. I honestly shouldn't complain, it could have been worse. I am glad he did "hang around". It seems like it's become more and more easier to skip town, than to stick by, raise your children and maintain your family. Unfortunately, I have come across too many stories of dead beat dads. I ask myself, why do dads who raise thier children get a trophy?, moms do it all the time, and no one is praising them! But I wanna take the high road and reward positive behavior.

To all the dads that "hang in there" when it's probably so much easier to take off, I appauld and praise you. And to all those moms who are the only father thier children know, I appauld you too.

So, I just hit the 5000 mark on my Twitter updates. There's an opportunity for many different emotions at this time, but only one supersedes the rest, and that is the feeling of GRATITUDE. It's impossible to articulate the profound affection that I feel for so many of my "tweeples". How can we possibly comprehend the notion that people that you never or probably will never meet, have had such a positive impact on your life. Most of my twitter friends have no hidden agenda, no real reason for inspiring and making my smile. They are genuine kind hearted people, who are here to empower each other- nothing more/ nothing less! Yes, it's not all pink and Rosy in the Twitter world. We have the occasional spammers, a few perverts, and plenty of people trying to get you to click on their site, but by no means can it compare to the "real deal" that I have been fortunate enough to interact with. I have been fortunate to interact, with celebrities, politicians, writers but most importantly people like myself. Mother's who are looking for support, opportunities and keys to balance.

When personal friends ask me about this Twitter phenomenon, I try to put into words what it is but I assure them that they cannot and will not grasp the impact of it until they actually use it and "interact" with people.

I originally wanted to post some of my dearest and most inspiring friends on Twitter but its nearly impossible to get everyone in.

Cheers to some amazing people I will probably never meet!

Fresh Laundry and a Smile

For me it's all about the smell. I have a fetish for aroma. I have recently noticed the effect it has on my mood. I'm addicted to scented candles and oils, although can rarely use them anymore because of the little ones. I also swear by Lavender baths, my favorite of course anything from Bath and Body. I even spritz my pillow with Lavender Pillow mist. I enjoy all these aromatherapy solutions, but nothing brightens my mood more than washing laundry. The smell instantly makes me smile!! I never skip the fabric softener, and I just can't get enough of it. Am I crazy? possibly! Hey whatever works.

Next time your in a not so good mood, try it, do your laundry....you might just thank yourself later (plus your laundry will get done!)

I love fashion, hair, makeup and anything that makes me feel like a girl. While I enjoy all these things, I do realize that if my skin is no upto par then it doesnt matter how banging my outfit is. I have combination skin, that often has it hormonal ups and downs. Just last week I got a zit on my chin, just like in middle school (crap). There are so many skincare products out there to fit every lifestyle and range. I have had the pleasure of reviewing quite a few. Although I have become a fan of St. Ives, Clinque and Philosophy, nothing tops my list like good ole witch hazel, exactly what our mothers and mother's mothers have been using. My skin responds wonderfully to it as both an astringent, toner and makeup remover. It's also good for treating insect bites. Usually priced between 2 or 3 bucks a bottle, you can't go wrong. My personal favorite (I do stock up on it), is Dickinson's witch hazel.

I'm thinking of devulging some more beauty secrets....stay tuned......

While I haven't viewed every episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8, I have frequently watched the show and followed the children's growth. I am always amazed at how incredibly organized she is. I have only three children and she puts me to shame. My husband calls it OCD, I applaud her. With our three children we do have our days of wondering "what were we thinking?". I can't even imagine the strain 8 children would put on any marriage. I don't think Kate imagined this show would blow up the way it did. Ironically getting it's best ratings thus far. With its successes comes its shortcomings. I must confess if it were me, I don't think I would want to continue living such a public life while my marriage was in such jeopardy. I mean the perks are nice but my sanity and keeping my family together would be a priority. I don't criticize Kate, that's just not my style, but I do wonder about choices she is making. Jon doesn't get off easy either. It quite obvious Kate is forcing this show on Jon but that by no means excuses his actions. As a parent I know first hand all the sacrifices we need to make for our children. While being able to provide for them financially is important, it is more important to provide for them as a couple united.

It's hard to watch the demise of family who were once so close. I guess that's the price of reality TV.

My kids are good eaters, they're good at eating candy, and chips NOT veggies. The only way I got my 3 year old to even let me put them on her plate is to create funny faces with them. While browsing online I can across these awesome food plates with the same concept. Children (like men) are very visual, therefore I think these plates would definetly hit a home run with them.

Wii Fit: Day 1

My hubby was nice enough to get me the Wii Fit I wanted for Mother's Day. Some have argued that he is trying to tell me something, I insist that he only wanted to make me happy. So I tried it this morning. Quite excited I started creating my profile. I entered all my data, and thought "ok, this is pretty cool stuff". Everything was peachy until it told me I was both overweight and 46 (years older than my real age). My hubby is in the background smirking as I know he got a kick out of that. But I decided that wouldn't discourage me, only motivate me to bring it baby!

So this morning I did a lil of everything, Yoga, Aerobics, Strength Training etc. I must say it was quite addicting. Spend two hours playing. Had to make myself get off. At this rate, I may just be skinny in no time.

Really looking forward to continuing my Wii Fit routine, and recording my progress.

Best Gift on Mother's Day

Mother's Day always makes me take a step back and access how amazing we really are. Mother's are what makes the world go round. That's why I am so uneasy about how judgemental some of us can be on one another. I useto be part of an online group who included both WAHM and SAHM. There was always debates on which were the better moms. Women would be putting each other down for choices they made. This squabble was constant, until I decided I no longer could stomach it. I left the group. In an ideal world mother's should remember our common goal, which is to love and nurture decent human beings. How you decide to do that is different for every person depending on their own circumstance. But who are we to judge?
This Mother's Day I'm hoping that more moms realize how important it is to stop judging one another and start supporting each other.
We all are trying to do what's best for us and our own situation. Let's not knock that.

Doubts

Recently I've been doubting my choices a bit more frequently. After my second daughter I decided to leave my full time job to be a SAHM. I knew it wouldn't be easy but never imagined it would be this hard. Balancing children with everything else in your life can become catastrophic. Most days I'm worned out. Could I have been my worst enemy? Did I make the right choices? I really hate to question myself but can't help but wonder if i would be a better mom if i worked outside the home. This would at least give me the opportunity to miss them and truly enjoy them when I see them.

Eventually I will have to stop "wondering" and make some choices. I'm guessing it's a matter of timing. Luckily I finished my Masters degree while pushing out babies. So I'm glad that at least I'm prepared. All I can say is watch out world, I think this Mom is getting ready to make a comeback!

P.S. This post was completely done via iPhone with baby on lap sleeping. Gosh I ♥ my iPhone!

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is always bittersweet for me. Although I look forward to it, I usually spend the day thinking about my dad. I always miss him, but today its usually a little extra. If he were here right now he would say, "Mija, la vida es muy corta, Gozala!!!". We often bumped heads, as I was the ultimate feminist daughter of the ultimate chauvinistic Mexican father. He would always try to convince me that I should be seen not heard. I was stubborn, and always had to have the last word. I refused to fit that mold he insisted on me.

I am happy I made peace with him before he passed. I'm sure he is looking down on me from Heaven and saving a place for my hubby ;-))

Being a curvy Latina I figured no way I can pull it off. Well I did and I will! The romper looks ultra chic on me, I'm pairing it with some gorge sandals and I'm off...just got to find somewhere to go now...

Is Balance the Key to Happiness

Lately I feel like I'm drowning.

People often strive for success and money. I strive for balance. As a mom of three this is getting increasingly harder. Days come and go and "I" get lost in the mix. I was brought up on the theory that your children and husband are first. My mother spent her entire life making sure we were taken care of, while her life passed right before her eyes. Now she suffers from Alzhiemers,and I have regrets for Mom. Regrets that my mom never found that balance.

I love my mom and I've learned from her.

My mission is to take control again and restore my balance in my quest for happiness.

It happens every Friday, the hashtag before the Follow Friday. It took my awhile to understand how this works but now I know how amazing it is. This morning woke up not really feeling as perky as usual. Must tell you Twitter and my Tweeple always manage to put a smile on my face. I am inspired by so many people, that 140 characters are just not enough. Like many I don't follow a certain industry, or like. I follow anyone who is interesting; and anyone one who stimulates my mind and heart. I am guilty of following some of my favorite celebrities but I must admit they aren't as interesting as the real people on Twitter.

It is was upto me, my status would read #followfriday: EVERYONE!!!

Photography is one of the many loves I have. I'm no where near professional but its something I enjoy. I also can easily waste a couple of hours tweaking pictures. Hence comes this new fabulous application for my iPhone. ColorSplash can take a color image from your camera roll and desaturate the photo selectively. You can have the photo all grayscale, except for a face, or like in the picture only the umbrella to give it that amazing designer effect.

You can zoom into the photo using the usual finger controls, and paint color selectively on an image, leaving a very striking effect. You do all this with your finger on the touch screen. I've been wanting to create this effect on my pictures and am beside myself that I can do it on my iPhone now.

The possibilites are endless and so are the hours you can spend enjoying this. At $1.99, its really worth the money.

I'm a webaddict, therefore I think I've seen it all. Seldom do I get exciting to about a new site. Well I'm excited. While reading through my Real Simple email I came Polyvore. The purpose of this site is to enable users to create virtual inspiration boards. This free web-based application is for mixing and matching images from anywhere on the web. It lets you create sets composed of individual images using a surprisingly easy-to-use drag and drop editor.

I think I'm in love, again.

Yoga anyone?

So in my quest to become fit and lose these last pounds I've been doing some Yoga stretches. If I were rich I may be able to afford my own instructor, but guess what now I can. Yoga Stretch, a yoga application for iphone is like having your own personal instructor walking you through a full session which includes audio and some really nice images.

You can customize it from 1 to 60 minutes with over 60 moves. You also have the option of the instructor giving you detailed information about your current pose.

There's are bunch of other options that I totally love.

I think I will go ahead and say that this ranks as one of my favorite apps.

Guilty, I watched parts of The Bachelor this season BUT only cause I thought Jason was the cutest single dad I had ever seen. Little did I know he was a sobbing flip flopper! Nothing made last nights finale more enjoyable than tweeting while watching!! My fellow tweeps were hilarious, and made a night of bad acting and drama, into a hysterical two hours!!

My new rule, only watch stupid shows while tweeting!

My iPhone is pretty perfect, as many of you know, except for one thing, its battery life stinks! Wrote to Apple a couple of times about this. The are "working on it", which means I will have to wait til the next version comes out. In the meantime I'm checking out Mophie Juice Pack. The Juice Pack is a rechargeable lithium polymer battery in the form of a non-slip, soft grip case. It extends the battery life on your phone. Standby time goes up to 250 hours, and talk time upto 8 hours.

This may be a solution but just sets you back about $100 bucks!

Most people would aspire to be the President, maybe even First Lady. Not me. Desiree Rogers seems to have my dream job, White House Social Secretary. Could you just imagine being party planner to President Obama? I'm sure it doesn't get better than that.

Must say Desiree seems to be the total package. Not only does she hold a Harvard MBA but she has fashion savvy. Looking picture perfect almost everywhere photographed. The February issue of Vogue profiles her nicely. In the article, she discusses her new job description and what kind of parties we might expect. She also hints on the possibility of instituting an Internet lottery to become a guest at a White House event.

My Iphone becoming my Beauty advisor

Ok HP, you're making me smile again. So, I'm reading my February issue of O (O for Oprah Magazine my BFF in my head), and came across an article called A Mobile Makeup Matcher. Apparently, HP has created a technology that is allowing you to simply take a snapshot of yourself with your mobile phone (for me that would be iPhone of course), send it to a virtual beauty adviser and waahhlaa you get a text message back with your best foundation shade. As per the HP website, the system locates the person's face within the image and color-corrects the image for camera and lighting discrepancies.

Seriously, is technology just getting better and better for us beauty buffs?

For years I have tried to keep to track of my period, whether it was on paper or online. I was obviously unsuccessful, case in point: my last two pregnancies were unplanned (but very much wanted). I finally found an application on my Iphone that has been quite accurate and helpful. Winkflash has developed the application appropriately called iPeriod.

What is it with those last ten pounds? My son will be two in March, and I have just not been able to get them off. I've tried many different diet solutions, none really making any significant results. So I have changed my strategy. I have recently started portion control, especially at dinner. But you see I'm a very visual person that why these gorgeous plates are the perfect solution. Slimware is a unique line of casual dinnerware with an emphasis on portion consciousness yet they are really elegant and chic looking. No one will ever know. They have four great designs, this being my favorite.

I guess it is simple, if you eat less you will weigh less.

My Spring Bag

So another favorite thing (up there with Oprah and Iphone) is Target, or Targeee when I'm feeling extra chic. I always score a winner there. I have a bag from two years ago that I still have people stopping and asking me "where did you get that, Coach?". Reply is usually "No not really, its Targeee" and I love the look on their face. My motto is that you can buy fashion but you can't buy style. And if you have natural style then you dont have to spend fortunes.

New IPhone applications usually get me all warm and fuzzy but especially when they have a true meaning. I have always been inspired by Oprah (my BFF in head). If you know her well you would know that there is one thing that has changed her life and that is a Gratitude Journal. I have attempted several times to keep one. What ususally happens it that either I cant find it, or I misplaced the pen. Now thats all about to change thanks to Gratitude an Iphone application created by Carla White.

I am a Iphone enthusiast (to say the least). As a mom I am always looking for new ways to entertain my children. I recently came across a application that may actually help my 22 month old with his speech delay. It's called Adams Game, developed by Sol Robots http://solrobots.com/

Premise of the game: game shows three pictures and asks the child to touch one of them (for example ”Touch the ball”). When the child picks the right picture, the game cheers. If the child picks another picture, the game says “Uh-Oh” and flashes the right picture. After several turns, the game rewards the child with music and a group of objects floating across the screen.

Whats even neater is that it allows you to add your own pictures and voices to the game. I have added pictures of myself, daddy, sister, nana.

I hoping this is a trend and more developers realize the need of apps like this for moms.

Michelle Obama was indeed a sight yesterday. She radiated both inside and out. She is a woman who carries herself well and this will certainly resonate with the rest of our country. Her lemongrass dress suit was certainly not expected but she managed to break through the traditional red, white, blue cliche. She radiated at the Inagural Balls in a breathtaking white one shoulder gown. What has struck me even more is that while I know she had numerous of choices from famous designers all over the world, she decided to showcase two up and coming designers.

Her daytime emsemble was created by Isabel Toledo, a Cuban American, who although respected designer not an Oscar de La Renta.

Her nighttime attire a shimmering white, one-shouldered, floor-length gown, embellished from top to bottom with white floral details and made by 26-year-old New York designer Jason Wu http://www.jasonwustudio.com/.

As you can see our new first lady is already breaking ground.
